Irwin names new assistant coach
Tuesday, January 11, 2011
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 11, 2011) - Head East Tennessee State University softball coach Brad Irwin announced the hiring of a new assistant Tuesday afternoon as Andrea Moss will take over as the Bucs' pitching coach.
"We are excited to have Andrea join the ETSU softball staff," said Irwin. "Andrea will be a tremendous asset to our staff. She was an outstanding pitcher during her playing days and she has collegiate pitching coach experience. I know our pitchers will benefit from being able to work with her daily. She will also be a big help in our efforts to recruit highly talented and quality student-athletes. I am very pleased that we were able to add Andrea to our staff and am confident she will make an immediate impact on our program and with our pitching staff."
Moss was formerly the assistant softball coach at George Washington since August 2009, while beginning her coaching career at North Georgia in May of 2007.
During her stint at North Georgia, the Saints finished third at the 2009 Women's College World Series, while also capturing both the Peach Belt regular season and tournament championships. Moss, who had the privilege coaching a First Team All-American and Peach Belt Pitcher of the Year selection, was part of the staff that received 2009 NFCA Southeast Regional Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Overall, the North Georgia softball program finished with a record of 50-5.
Along with the success on the field, Moss played a vital role in recruiting and implementing strength and conditioning plans for the players.
Moss graduated from North Georgia in May 2008, with a bachelor's of science in physical education. During her time as a student-athlete, Moss accumulated many accolades and posted 23 wins and a 1.99 ERA in 2007. After recording the impressive numbers, Moss took home all-conference honors in the Peach Belt and she was also named Most Valuable Teammate by her peers.
After her time with North Georgia, Moss moved north to take the assistant job at George Washington. Moss handled the recruiting duties and took over the reins of day-to-day operations of the program with the Colonials.
The ETSU softball team opens the 2011 season on Feb. 15 when the Bucs travel to Tennessee.
