FT. MYERS, Fla. (April 8, 2011) - After nearly sweeping the series from Stetson Thursday evening, the ETSU softball team will look to wrap up its stint in the Sunshine State on a strong note when the Bucs visit Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday afternoon. First pitch of the A-Sun doubleheader is set for 2 p.m. at the FGCU Softball Complex.

ETSU (14-22, 3-7 A-Sun) rallied from a three-run deficit to capture a 4-3 come-from-behind victory against the Hatters in game one. The Bucs got a strong outing from senior right-hander Jessica Duncan (Ooltewah, Tenn.) in the circle as she picked up the win after allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings of work. Sophomore outfielder Tara Hartnett (Snellville, Ga.) brought home the game-winning run for the second time in as many weeks when her sac-fly RBI in the seventh scored pinch runner Marlina Delisa (Tucson, Ariz.) to put the Blue and Gold up 4-3. Despite falling behind by six runs early in game two, the Bucs threatened mightily as ETSU had the game-tying run on third with two outs in the seventh, but the Hatters prevailed for the one-run win.

Sophomore infielder Sam Lower (Sebring, Fla.) carries a four-game hitting streak into play on Saturday after hitting .429 (3-7) with a double and RBI against Stetson on Thursday. Meanwhile, fellow sophomore Whitley Hensley (Erwin, Tenn.) reached base five times against the Hatters by going 3-for-5 (.600) with a double, run scored, walk, and hit-by-pitch.

Florida Gulf Coast is coming off a sweep over USC Upstate on Thursday and the Eagles moved their record to 23-21, 6-2 in A-Sun play.

The Eagles, who were picked fourth in the A-Sun Preseason Coaches' Poll, are led by senior outfielder Courtney Platt and red-shirt senior righty Catherine McDaniel. Platt leads the team in average (.387), hits (43), doubles (13), runs scored (33), and slugging percentage (.649), while McDaniel is 11-9 with a 1.48 ERA (28 ER/132.1 IP).

ETSU is still searching for its first win over FGCU as the Eagles have won all six meetings in the series; however, three of those games were decided by one run.
