JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 3, 2015) - With the softball season quickly approaching, ETSU sophomores Taylor Carter (Brazil, Ind.) and Kelsey Chernak (Ooltewah, Tenn.), two of the Buccaneers' 16 returners, have earned Preseason All-SoCon Second Team honors from College Sports Madness.
Carter, who made 29 appearances on the mound last season, including 23 starts, led ETSU with 13 wins in 2014 and ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division I for fewest walks per seven innings (0.74). Carter was also the third leading batter for the Bucs last season, hitting .270 with 29 RBI and seven home runs.
Splitting time at the middle infield positions, Chernak started 49 of ETSU’s 52 games during her freshman campaign. The Ooltewah, Tenn., native batted .252, scoring 23 runs. Chernak also belted 10 doubles, second on the team behind only Katie Wolff (12).
