GETTING UP TO SPEED

Last weekend, the Buccaneers (8-8) hosted the three-team Holiday Inn Invitational in Johnson City, going 2-2, recording a win and a loss against both Radford and Tennessee Tech.

Redshirt senior Nicole Fox (Peachtree City, Ga.) went a combined 6-for-14 over the weekend and scored the game-winning run in ETSU's 8-7, eight-inning win versus Radford. The Peachtree City, Ga., native is in the midst of a seven-game hit streak in which she has risen her batting average from .276 to .364.

Sophomore Taylor Carter (Brazil, Ind.) earned the decision in both of ETSU's wins, extending her win streak to three games and knotching her fifth consecutive complete-game outing. In her last five starts, Carter has tossed 32 innings, striking out 24 batters while allowing just 10 earned runs.

Senior pitcher Whitney Leon (Dandridge, Tenn.) leads the Bucs with 5.39 stikeout-per-seven-innings rate. Leon, who is limiting opponents to a .255 cumulative batting average, shares the team's strikeout lead (27) with Carter.

Carter is also one of three ETSU players to have recorded double-digit RBI totals, being joined by Kelsey Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) and Latosha Rectenwald (Whitesburg, Tenn.) with 16 and 10, respectively.

Five ETSU players have hit multiple home runs this season, including Smith who leads the Bucs with five home runs. As a team, ETSU is tied with Mercer atop the Southern Conference home run rankings (17).

The Bucs' lineup also features seven batters hitting better than .300. ETSU ranks among the top-half of the SoCon in several offensive categories, including batting average (.305), slugging percentage (.477)., and runs per game (5.19).

Impressively, ETSU is 21-for-21 on stolen base attempts this season. Junior Jenine Duncan (Jonesborough, Tenn.) leads the Bucs with 12 steals, while Fox has swiped six bases.

OPPONENT AT A GLANCE

After piecing together a streak of four wins in five contests, the Blue Hose (7-9) have suffered three consecutive losses, being outscored 15-0 in those setbacks.

Presbyerian's offense attack is paced by senior Jill McLean and junior Kersten Legacki, who are batting .423 and .413, respectively. McLean leads the Blue Hose with 22 hits, white Legacki leads the squad with four home runs.

Like ETSU, the Blue Hose lineup features three players with double-digit RBI totals: Shelby Petick (12), Legacki (11), and Erin Taylor (11).
