JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 27, 2015) - The ETSU softball team will open a five-game home stand this weekend as the Bucs host in-state foe Chattanooga for a three-game series. ETSU and Chattanooga will play a single game Saturday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m., before playing a doubleheader Sunday, March 29, with games beginning at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.

GETTING UP TO SPEED

The Buccaneers (11-15, 1-2 SoCon) were last in action Tuesday, March 24, suffering a road setback to No. 15 Tennessee.

Freshman Kelsey Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) remains the SoCon leader for home runs per game (0.33) and RBI per game (1.13). She leads ETSU with eight homers and 27 RBI.

Fellow freshman Cassi Pickett (Chattanooga, Tenn.) leads the Bucs with a .373 batting average, a mark that ranks 10th in the SoCon. Teammate Nicole Fox (Peachtree City, Ga.) ranks 13th in the SoCon for batting average. Fox, who strung together an 11-game hit streak earlier this season, is batting .355 on the year.

So far this season, Fox has proven to be one of the toughest outs in the Southern Conference, striking out just once per 18.6 at bats, ranking first in the SoCon. She is also the league leader in triples per game (0.12), and leads ETSU in triples (4), hits (33), and runs scored (18).

Jenine Duncan (Jonesborough, Tenn.) leads ETSU with 12 stolen bases, and ranks first in the SoCon for stolen bases per game (0.60).

On the mound, sophomore Taylor Carter (Brazil, Ind.) is the conference leader for fewest walks per seven innings (1.19), and ranks 24th in the nation in the category.

OPPONENT AT A GLANCE

Chattanooga will enter the weekend series riding a three-game win streak. The Mocs (20-8, 3-0 SoCon) have won seven of their last nine contests.

Sarah Beth Roberts and Sam Taylor each rank among the Top 10 in the SoCon for batting average.

Roberts, who leads the Mocs with 24 runs, is batting .392, while Taylor ranks closely behind with a .387 mark.

Nicole Osterman and Roberts have hit seven and six homers, respectively.

On the mound, Taylor Deason and Cori Jennings have combined to go 17-7 in 26 starts. Deason's 2.05 ERA is tops in the SoCon, while Jennings' 2.52 mark ranks third.
