JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 16, 2015) - The ETSU softball team will resume league play this weekend as the Bucs host SoCon opponent Furman for a three-game series. ETSU and Furman will play a doubleheader Friday, April 17, and a single game Sunday, April 19.

GETTING UP TO SPEED

The Buccaneers (12-23, 1-8 SoCon) are coming off an 11-0 loss to No. 12 Tennessee Tuesday, April 14. The game set an ETSU program record for single-game attendance at 541.

Three ETSU players are batting better than .300 this season, including freshman Kelsey Smith (Tucson, Ariz.), who leads the Bucs in home runs (11), runs batted in (35), and slugging percentage (.710).

Nicole Fox (Peachtree City, Ga.), who has stolen 14 bases this season, is leading the Bucs in batting average (.331), runs (24), and hits (41).

Fox and Jenine Duncan (Jonesborough, Tenn.) have accounted for 28 of ETSU's 36 steals. Duncan is pacing the Bucs on the base paths with 14 stolen bases.

Freshman catcher Cassi Pickett (Chattanooga, Tenn.) is batting .326 on the year with five homers and a team-best .402 on-base percentage. In SoCon play, Pickett is batting .385 with three doubles and four RBI.

Meanwhile, senior Alex Everett (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) has posted a .333 batting average in league play, recording eight hits and driving in a pair of runs.

In the pitcher's circle, sophomore Taylor Carter (Brazil, Ind.) has ammassed a 6-8 record in 18 appearances, including 14 starts. Meanwhile, senior righthander Whitney Leon (Dandridge, Tenn.) leads ETSU with 58 strikeouts this season.

OPPONENT AT A GLANCE

The Furman Paladins (20-21, 3-6 SoCon) will enter its series versus ETSU coming off a three-game series with Chattanooga last weekend.

League-leading Chattanooga took two of three games from Furman, however, the Paladins won the series finale in Greenville, S.C., 6-5.

Freshman lefty Lindsey Bert leads the Paladins with 15 wins in the pitcher's circle, and has maintained a 2.75 ERA in 28 appearances.

As a team, Furman ranks third in the Southern Conference for earned run average (3.24).

Junior shortstop Sieara Bishop is pacing the Paladins' offense this season. Bishop leads the team in batting average (.387), runs (23), hits (48), and RBI (27). She ranks seventh in the SoCon with a .661 slugging percentage.
