KENNESAW, Ga. (March 9, 2017) – The ETSU softball team completes tournament play this weekend as the Bucs head to Georgia for the Owl Challenge, which begins Friday at Kennesaw State’s Bailey Park.

ABOUT THE BUCS
The Bucs (8-10) dropped three games at last weekend’s Buccaneer Challenge, including the final two games by 7-6 decisions in eight innings. ETSU fell to St. John’s and Morehead State on Saturday and again to St. John’s on Sunday.
As a team, ETSU’s offense leads the SoCon in doubles (30), ranks second in walks (64) and third in runs scored (85), RBI (76) and on-base percentage (.360) … The Buccaneer pitching staff is tied for the lead in saves (3) and ranks second in strikeouts (90).
Individually, Danielle Knoetze (San Diego, Calif.) and Taylor Carter (Brazil, Ind.) are tied for the SoCon lead in home runs (5) … Knoetze also leads the conference in slugging percentage (.804) and total bases (41), ranks third in doubles (6), fifth in batting average (.392), and eighth in on-base percentage (.456) and hits (20) … Carter ranks third in slugging (.745) and RBI (17), fourth in total bases (38), is tied for fifth in runs scored (15), and ranks ninth in on-base percentage (.450) … Tiffany Laughren (Erwin, Tenn.) ranks second in on-base percentage (.484) and doubles (7), third in hits (23) and batting average (.582), is tied for eighth in total bases (32) and ranks ninth in slugging percentage (.582) … Madison Ogle (Maryville, Tenn.) ranks second in saves (2), sixth in ERA (3.15), is tied for seventh in appearances (11), ranks seventh in opposing batting average (.240) and strikeouts (29), and eighth in innings (40.0) … Lindsey Fadnek (Coalfield, Tenn.) ranks third in batters struck out looking (13), fifth in opposing batting average (.235), and eighth in strikeouts (27) … Sharlene Godoy (La Puente, Calif.) leads the SoCon in fewest walks allowed (2), is tied for second in fewest hits allowed (23) and games in relief (6), is tied for third in games finished (5) and ranks third in fewest earned runs allowed (9).
Danielle Knoetze is zoning in on a milestone as she is one hit shy of 100 for her career … In 118 games (99 starts), Knoetze is hitting .306 (99-for-324) with 15 doubles, three triples, 22 home runs, 58 runs and 55 RBI … Taylor Carter is five RBI shy of 100 for her career, while Madison Ogle is 15 strikeouts away from 100 for her career.
Taylor Carter and Danielle Knoetze lead the team with five home runs this season, while they are both chasing in on the ETSU all-time home run record … Carter has belted 27 career home runs, which is six shy of tying Jackie Baird’s (2011-14) mark of 33, while Knoetze ranks fourth all-time with 22 career home runs.
Taylor Carter has reached base safely in her last seven games, while Danielle Knoetze has hit safely in her last four games and Cassi Pickett (Chattanooga, Tenn.) has recorded a hit in her last three contests … Pickett hit .714 (5-for-7) with one double, two walks and four RBI in three games last weekend … Knoetze is hitting .462 (6-for-13) with two doubles, two home runs, three runs and three RBI in her last four, while her five home runs have come in her last eight games … Mykeah Johnson (Cohutta, Ga.) has reached base safely in 15 of the first 18 games to start the season, while seven of her 14 hits have come in her last four games – where she’s 7-for-14 with four runs scored … Knoetze has recorded at least one hit in 13 of her 17 games played … Knoetze has registered six multi-hit games and the Bucs are 5-1 in those contests … Tiffany Laughren has posted a hit in 13 of the first 18 games on the season and Taylor Carter has accomplished the feat in 13 of the 18 games as well.
As a team, ETSU is 6-2 when out-hitting the opposition, while outscoring its opponents, 11-2, in the seventh inning … The Bucs have totaled double-digit hits four times this season … After posting double-digit hits in its first three games of the year, ETSU went 14 games before accomplishing the feat again as the Blue and Gold posted a season-high 14 hits in Sunday’s extra-inning loss to St. John’s … ETSU’s pitching staff has allowed two earned runs or less in nine of its 18 games this season.
Nine of ETSU’s 18 games this season have been decided by two runs or less with the Bucs going 3-6 in those contests … ETSU is 2-4 in one-run games and 1-2 in two-run games this season.
When the Bucs have the lead late in games it results in a victory … ETSU is 7-0 this season when leading after four innings; however, the Bucs are 0-8 when trailing after the fourth.
ABOUT TENNESSEE TECH
Tennessee Tech has lost six straight games and enters the weekend with a 4-15 overall record.
As a team, the Golden Eagles lead the Ohio Valley Conference with 20 home runs – Gabby LaSala, Hallie Davis and Kelly Kennedy have all belted four homers on the season.
In the circle, senior Danielle Liberatore ranks third in the conference in strikeouts (57) and fifth in innings pitched (50.1) and starts (8).
Six of Tennessee Tech’s losses have been by two runs or less.
The Golden Eagles were picked to finish fifth in the OVC Preseason Coaches Poll.
ETSU and Tennessee Tech have met 22 times with the Golden Eagles leading the all-time series, 16-6 … The Bucs have won three of the last five meetings.
ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE
The Spartans have won eight of their last 10 and sit 13-4 on the season.
Michigan State is coming off a 7-3 win at Georgia Tech on Wednesday night where the Spartans hit four home runs in the victory.
As a team, the Spartans are hitting .336 (151-for-449) with 27 doubles, 11 triples and 23 home runs.
The Spartans have two players hitting over .400, while six players are hitting over .300 … Michigan State is led by junior outfielder Lea Foerster as she’s hitting .490 (25-51) with 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 26 runs and 18 RBI, while sophomore utility player Kaitlyn Eveland is hitting .432 (19-44).
Junior left-hander Bridgette Rainey is 6-3 with a 2.78 ERA (20 ER/50.1 IP) with 60 strikeouts, while freshman righty Jordan Watson is 5-1 with a 3.34 ERA (14 ER/29.1 IP).
The Spartans are outscoring their opponents, 118-65, including a 33-10 mark in the first inning.
Michigan State plays at Georgia State Thursday evening.
Friday marks the first meeting with Michigan State since March 6, 2008 … ETSU is 1-1 all-time against the Spartans.
ABOUT KENNESAW STATE
Kennesaw State has won six straight games and enters the weekend at 16-5 on the season.
Offensively, the Owls lead the Atlantic Sun in batting average (.334), slugging percentage (.542), hits (189), doubles (36), triples (8), and home runs (22).
Freshman outfielder Olivia Tamewitz is hitting .515 (34-66) with six doubles, four triples, two home runs, 18 runs and 19 RBI, while Courtney Sutter has eight home runs and 20 RBI, along with a .439 batting average (25-57).
Red-shirt freshman Alley Cutting leads the Owls in the circle as she’s 7-2 with a 1.71 ERA and 76 strikeouts … Cutting is also limiting opponents to a .163 batting average.
Kennesaw State was picked to finish third in the A-Sun Preseason Coaches Poll, while Taylor Denton and Logan Viers earned all-conference honors … Viers is 5-2 with a 1.75 ERA (13 ER/52.0 IP), while Denton is hitting .351 (20-57) with four doubles, one triple and 12 runs scored.
The Owls lead the all-time series over ETSU, 17-5.
