2003 Season: McChain put together a fine freshman campaign in which she went 2-2 in four starts on the mound, in addition to a 4.85 ERA … she hurled 21.2 innings and tallied seven strikeouts … McChain was named the SoCon’s Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 28, after leading the Bucs to a 6-3 shutout at Furman and then aiding in a combined shutout over the Paladins, 4-0, the following day … McChain also made seven plate appearances in 2003 … she batted .286 with an RBI and two walks ... High School: Julia was a star pitcher, earning four letters for coaches Mike McDonald and Thomas Brown at Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, Va. … following the 2000 season, McChain earned second team All-Cardinal District honors … in 2001, she was second team all-district again, second team Potomac News all-area and second team Washington Post all-area … in 2002, McChain was first team all-district, second team all-Northwest Region, Washington Post All-Extra team and earned the Gar-Field H.S. team award ... Personal: Born on Aug. 9, 1984, Julia is the daughter of Tim and Denise McChain … is a biology major.
