ETSU vs. Kennesaw State Game 1 Box Score (3/6/09)
Owls defeat Bucs in conference opener, 14-7

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 6, 2009) – The ETSU baseball team was defeated by Kennesaw State Friday night at Cardinal Park in the conference opener, 14-7.
Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) got the Bucs (4-3, 0-1 A-Sun) on the board in the bottom of the first as he doubled to left bringing in Jacob Fabry (Chattanooga, Tenn.) to make the score 1-0. Danny Petro (Atlanta, Ga.) added another run in the inning as he double to right scoring Hoilman to give ETSU a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the second, Curtis Van Wyck cut into the Buccaneer lead as he homered over the fence in right to make the score 2-1.
The Owls took the lead in the top of the third as Kennesaw State scored six runs on six hits to take a 7-2 lead.
The Bucs got back a run in the bottom of the third as Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) hit a towering solo home run over the fence in left center to cut the Owl lead to 7-3.
ETSU continued to scratch away at the Kennesaw State lead in the bottom of the sixth as Hoilman scored on an Owl error to make the score 7-4. Later in the inning, Ben Allen (Kingsport, Tenn.) crushed a three-run home run over the fence in right center to tie the game at 7-all.
Kennesaw State answered in the top of the seventh as they jumped back out in front 10-7 on a two-run single by Andrew Martin and an RBI single by Jordan Craft.
In the top of the eight, the Owls added a couple insurance runs on a Van Wyck two-run double and an ETSU error to make the score 13-7.
Jace Whitmer added another run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single to make the final 14-7.
