NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 15, 2009) The ETSU baseball team dropped two games Sunday to Belmont at Shelby Field in Nashville, Tenn. by the scores of 8-1 and 13-3.
In the first game, the Bruins jumped out in front in the bottom of the first on a RBI double by Brandon McCall to take a 1-0 lead.
Belmont added four more runs in the bottom of the second on three ETSU errors to take a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Derek Hamblen added an insurance run for the Bruins as he singled in a run to make the score 6-0.
Garrett May (Roswell, Ga.) got the Bucs on the board in the in the top of the seventh as Chris Rankhorn (Gallatin, Tenn.) came in to score on a deep sac fly to left center to cut the lead to 6-1.
The Bruins answered in the bottom of the seventh on a sec fly by Daniel Wagner to make the score 7-1 Belmont.
Wagner singled in a run in the bottom of the eighth to make the final 8-1
In game two of the doubleheader, Belmont took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an ETSU error, a RBI single by Derek Wiley and a three-run home run by Wagner.
The Bruins scored six runs in the bottom of the third on a Hamann two-run single, an RBI double by Derek Hamblen, a Packy Elkins two-run double and two ETSU errors to extend their lead to 11-0.
Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) cut into the Bruin lead in the top of the fifth as he crushed a three-run home run over the fence in left center to make the score 11-3.
Wagner homered again in the bottom of the sixth to increase the Belmont lead to 13-3.
McCall singled in a run in the bottom of the seventh to make thte score 14-3, Bruins.
The Bucs added a run in the bottom of the ninth as Rankhorn singled in Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) to make the final 14-4.
ETSU was led offensively by Rankhorn as he was 3-for-5 on the day including a pinch-hit RBI single. Reeder was 2-for-5 in game two of the doubleheader as he had three RBI in the game.
