About Tim: The Buccaneers most recognizable player, Smith has become a nationally known player at the point ... a fast-paced, high-energy guard known for his unorthodox shot-making abilities, Smith is also an extremely quick defender who ranked among the nation’s best in steals per game last year ... received a great deal of media attention in 2003-04, being featured in national publications such as the Washington Post and USA Today, as well as making an appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated. 2003-04: Led the team in scoring with 17.7 points per game and led the team with 4.5 assists per contest ... an All-SoCon first-team selection, he finished second in the voting for player of the year behind teammate Zakee Wadood ... had a fantastic SoCon Tournament, collecting the event’s most valuable player honor for the second straight year ... joined the ETSU 1,000-point club at the tournament, eclipsing the milestone with a free throw at the 2:16 mark of the first half against Chattanooga (3/6) ... participated in the Nike Camp this past summer, playing against the best collegiate players in the country ... scored 26 points, dished out five assists and collected four steals against Cincinnati in the NCAA Tournament ... in three games at the SoCon Tournament, Smith averaged 26 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 3.3 steals in wins over Furman (3/4), Davidson (3/5) and Chattanooga (3/6) ... matched his career high with 29 points against Davidson, and had 20-plus efforts in the other two games with 24 points against Furman and 25 points against Chattanooga ... has scored 20 or more points in five of six career games at the SoCon Tourney ... scored in double figures in 29 of his 32 games this season ... scored 27 points against College of Charleston (2/28) ... versus the Cougars, he also picked up his second career double-double with 10 rebounds, and set career highs for field goals made (13) and attempted (31) ... the 31 shots at Charleston was also a school record ... put together what was then his best game of the year in a win over Chattanooga (2/24), scoring a season-high 27 points and setting a career-high with 11 field goals ... led the Bucs to a win at Fresno State, scoring a then season-high 26 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five assists ... put together back-to-back, 20-plus scoring efforts with a season-high 26 against Western Carolina (1/17) and 20 against Elon (1/19) -- all of which came in the second half against the Phoenix ... scored in double figures in each of three games at the Rainbow Classic, with 17 against IUPUI (12/27), 16 against Lamar (12/29) and 15 against American (12/30) ... had a career-high 10 assists in a win over UNC Asheville (12/3) ... scored a team-high 14 points in a loss to Texas Tech (11/23). 2002-03: His 475 points tied the ETSU freshman record set by Greg Dennis in 1987-88 ... netted 22 points in 40 minutes of play and was the main subject of many media reports after ETSU’s 76-73 near-upset of Wake Forest in the first round of the NCAA Tournament ... selected as the Southern Conference’s Freshman of the Year, becoming only the third player in ETSU history to win the award -- the first since Greg Dennis won the honor in 1987-88 ... was also named the SoCon Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after scoring team-highs in all three games -- 23 points against Wofford (3/6), 17 points against College of Charleston (3/7) and 25 points against Chattanooga (3/8) ... finished second on team with an average of 15.3 points per game ... ended the season 20th in the country with 2.4 steals per game ... had six 20-point games during the regular season including a 25-point effort against Appalachian State (3/1), but Smith ended the season with a total of nine 20-point games on the season. High School: Played two years of prep ball at Hargrave Military Academy ... averaged 14 points and seven assists a game in his two seasons ... helped lead team to a 60-4 record ... the other four starters from that last season at Hargrave signed with Florida, Wake Forest, North Carolina State and Tennessee ... also starting point guard for Boo Williams’ AAU national championship team.
