Second Season

Joshua Wick enters his second season on the Lady Buccaneer coaching staff, as he was named assistant coach in August 2008. Wick will cover the scouting, strength and conditioning, and academic liaison duties. On the court, he will spend most of his time working with the guards and perimeter players.

Wick made a huge impact in helping the guard play a year ago, as he helped coach Siarre Evans to the 2009 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year honor. In addition, Evans was named Tournament MVP and First Team All-Atlantic Sun. Joining Evans on the First Team All-Conference squad was fellow guard TaRonda Wiles. Both Evans and Wiles were the leading scorers of not only the Lady Bucs, but also the A-Sun. Evans won the scoring and rebounding titles, while Wiles ranked second.

Prior to his arrival in Johnson City, Wick spent the 2007-08 season coaching at UNLV. During his time with the Lady Rebels, he coached one of the best players to ever wear a Lady Rebel uniform – Sequoia Holmes – who led the Mountain West Conference in scoring and became the third UNLV player to reach the WNBA.

Before living in Las Vegas, Wick enjoyed a three-year stint at the University of North Carolina where he gained valuable experiences under head coach Sylvia Hatchell as a video coordinator. In his time in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels enjoyed an impressive run, as UNC went on to win three ACC Championships and made back-to-back Final Four appearances.

Wick began his coaching career in 1999, when he took over the reins at Cresset Christian Academy, in Durham, N.C. Throughout his three-year run, he guided the men’s basketball team to a regular season championship and a perfect conference record.

“Josh brings a lot of enthusiasm to the staff and I am delighted he is part of our Lady Buccaneer family,” said Kemp. “His knowledge of the game will help continue to build on the program’s success.”

Wick received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies from North Carolina in 2001. Along with his B.A. degree, Wick also received a minor in Exercise and Sport Science.
