Head coach Karen Kemp turned to a familiar face from her 2007-08 Atlantic Sun Championship squad to fill her third assistant position. In August 2008, Kelvin Long accepted the open Lady Buccaneer assistant slot, after being a graduate manager for ETSU’s Atlantic Sun championship team a year ago.
Long, who enters his second season as a full-time assistant, will continue assisting with recruiting, travel coordinator, and working with the guards in practice.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native has done an excellent job with the guard work. On the court a pair of guards received A-Sun accolades as Siarre Evans was named 2009 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and Tournament MVP. In addition, Evans won the A-Sun scoring and rebounding titles, and was a WBCA State Farm Coaches’ All-American Finalist. Joining Evans on the all-conference and all-tournament team was TaRonda Wiles. Wiles, who finished second in the league in scoring, was selected First Team All-Conference.
In 2008, Evans and Wiles were both named to the All-Tournament Team, while Evans was also selected First Team All-Conference.
“Kelvin has done a tremendous job since joining the staff,” commented Kemp. “He is very eager to learn and work on new things, and has already done an outstanding job with the recruiting.”
Long received his master’s in Sport Management last December and spent the previous three summers before arriving at ETSU as an AAU summer coach.
