Journal Entry #2

Lady Buccaneer Fans,

It’s that time again to update you on what has been happening with the Lady Bucs.

Before I get into that, I want to thank everyone who attended the Lady Buc Extravaganza on Thursday (Sept. 25) evening. The event was a big success. I also want to thank the grant team for organizing and doing such a great job. It allowed our fans and supporters to see our young ladies in a different setting. I have always said we have a great group of student-athletes and this lets our supporters see that side of the Lady Buccaneers.

As for the staff, we have been busy recruiting and working the players out on the court. If you ever wondered what recruiting was all about, I will share a little bit with you. My assistants are doing a great job talking to recruits, their coaches (both high school and AAU), but most importantly are the handwritten letters they mail out. We try to make sure our top recruits are receiving mail from us every day, so we mail them letters about the team and informing them what is going on. We want them to think about ETSU Lady Bucs and anticipate receiving the letter when they arrive home from school. Another thing we are busy with is setting up home and official visits to our campus. I am extremely pleased with where we are right now in regards to the recruiting process. We haven’t received any verbal commitments yet, but I think we will have some soon. Currently, we are looking to sign three players this fall and our focus is on post play. This is a quick highlight as to what is going on with the coaches.

Now for some new information on the team.

We hit the court about a month ago, as we conducted some small group workouts. As you might have guessed, we were rusty, but there was never a time they were not working hard. As of Sept. 15, we were allowed to work with them as a team, for two hours per week. Right now we are going through some drills, but my objective for the first couple of workouts, was to evaluate where we need to focus our attention and energy, during these last two weeks prior to Oct. 17 (the first official day of practice). One area we will work a lot on is our defense. Playing man-to-man is our number one defense, so we will refresh the memory of our returnees, and introduce our principles to the new players. I am very excited about this team’s potential and really look forward to a repeat of you saw last season.

As I close for this month, I would like to invite you to come watch a practice or just to stop by to say Hi.

Until next time,

Coach Kemp
