Lady Bucs end fall season at tough Tennessee Classic

Sophomore Paula Jaime

Sophomore Karina Kedzo

Senior Yevgenyia Stupak

Junior Kelly Holtzhausen

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 5, 2009) – After a strong showing at the Wilson ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships two weeks ago, the ETSU women’s tennis team close out its fall season at the Tennessee Classic Friday in Knoxville.

In addition to the Lady Bucs, the three-day event features three ranked teams, No. 22 Vanderbilt, No. 44 Wake Forest and host No. 10 Tennessee.

ETSU enters the tournament – which will be held inside the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center – after putting two doubles teams in the ITA Regional quarterfinals. The Lady Buc duo of sophomore Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) and Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela), in addition to the team of senior Yevgenyia Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) and junior Kelly Holtzhausen (Johannesburg, South Africa), all fell just short of the semifinals losing to a pair of Vanderbilt duos in close tiebreakers 9-8.

Below is the format for this weekend’s matches.

Friday

Singles: ETSU vs. No. 40 Wake Forest

Doubles: ETSU vs. No. 10 Tennessee

Saturday

Singles: ETSU vs. No. 22 Vanderbilt

Doubles: ETSU vs. No. 40 Wake Forest

Sunday

Singles: ETSU vs. No. 10 Tennessee
