Tammi Fries begins her fourth season with the Bucs after joining the ETSU coaching staff in July 2006. Fries’ primary on-court responsibilities include training the middle and right-side hitters. She also serves as recruiting coordinator. Last year under Fries, middle blocker McKayla Barber was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference Freshman team.
Prior to ETSU, Fries graduated with her master’s degree in sport management from the University of Florida in May 2006. In addition to her educational pursuits, Fries spent two seasons as an assistant coach in Gainesville, Fla., at the club and high school levels. She also taught volleyball classes in the Alan C. Moore Sport & Fitness program at UF. In her final semester with the Gators, Fries interned with the UF volleyball program, assisting the coordinator of operations. She currently coaches with the local Kingsport Volleyball Club.
A Winnabow, N.C., native, Fries was a four-year letterwinner at fellow Atlantic Sun Conference member Campbell University. In 2002 she was named the team’s most valuable player and was appointed a team co-captain prior to her senior season in 2003. For three seasons at Campbell, Fries earned Academic All-Conference honors from the A-Sun.
Fries graduated Magna Cum Laude from Campbell in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training. She is married to Jared Fries, an academic advisor for ETSU athletics. They are expecting their first child in November.
