Luke Murray enters his second season as an assistant coach on the ETSU volleyball staff. Murray will primarily work with the setters, while also assist with recruiting, scouting, and academics.

In his first season at ETSU, Murray helped direct the Bucs to an Atlantic Sun Championship en route making the NCAA Tournament for the first-time in program history. Murray coached setters Kayla Williams and Jamie Rutledge who combined for 1,458 total assists. Rutledge ranked seventh in the A-Sun in assists per set (9.04) and finished with nine double-doubles on the campaign. Rutledge also notched double-digit assists in 24 matches and recorded a career-high 64 assists in both matches against Northern Kentucky.

The Bucs also excelled in the classroom as ETSU registered a team grade-point-average of 3.592, marking the second-highest GPA by an ETSU team in 2012-13. Overall, 12 student-athletes registered a GPA above a 3.0, while six players recorded a 3.7 clip or better. Meanwhile, in the fall of 2012, a record-high four Buccaneer standouts were placed on the A-Sun All-Academic Team, while the team received AVCA Team Academic honors for the second straight season.

Murray played collegiately at Penn State for head coach Mark Pavlik from 2005-08 and was a part of the Nittany Lions’ 2008 National Championship team. While at Penn State, Murray received numerous accolades such as:

The Washington, Pa. native also ranks among the Nittany Lion greats, as his 3,191 career assists rank seventh all-time in Penn State history. Murray graduated with a degree in history from Penn State.

Following his collegiate career, Murray trained for the U.S. National Team in Anaheim, Calif. under Hugh McCutcheon and Alan Knipe. From there Murray played professionally in Cyprus and Puerto Rico.
