Chattanooga, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2003) -- Chattanooga outside hitter Kari Krouse pounded 15 kills and hit .464 at the net as East Tennessee State dropped its Southern Conference opener to the Lady Mocs (30-21, 30-23, 30-27) Wednesday night at Maclellan Gym.
With the loss, the Buccaneers fall to 1-9 on the season, while Chattanooga improves to 5-7 overall. ETSU was led by freshman Kelsey Sherich) (Ogallala, Neb.), who had 10 kills and a match-high three service aces. Sherich made just three attach errors leading to a .304 hitting percentage.
ETSU led by five points about midway through the first and third games, but Chattanooga roared back each time, and the Mocs were not able to pull off game two until late in the contest.
Junior Karen Freeburg (Newcastle, Ind.) led the Bucs defensively with 16 digs. Sophomore Kristi Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) tallied 36 assists.
Chattanooga hit .281 as a team, while the Buccaneers managed just .120 on the attack. Both team finished the night with 12 service errors each.
The Buccaneers will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, when they open against Clemson at the 2003 Clemson Invitational. On Saturday, ETSU will face Illinois-Chicago and Charleston Southern.
