JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 13, 2008) - The ETSU volleyball team recently held its first annual awards banquet honoring the players hard work and good play in 2008.
Freshman McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) was named the team MVP after an All-Tournament Team and All-Freshmen Team selections. Junior Kristan Provchy (Norton, Ohio) earned the team Academic MVP for the second straight year, while Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) received the coach's award. Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) received the Buc Heart award and Jen Neice (Allen, Texas) was named the team Defensive MVP.
The team also held the first ever ETSU Volleyball Buc Olympics where the players were put through several different physical and technical challeneges. Sophomore Desiree Dyck (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) came away with the gold, while Baufield won the silver and Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) won the bronze.
The Bucs return a very experience squad in 2009 as they look to make the Atlantic Sun Tournament for the fourth straight year.
