JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct.. 14, 2008) - The ETSU volleyball team was defeated by Tennessee in three sets Tuesday night in Brooks Gym, 3-0 (14-25, 16-25, 20-25).
"Our team did some really good things at times," said head coach Lindsey Devine. "When we slowed the ball down it really put us in a good offensive position. I was glad to see everyone get some court time against a big opponent."
The Bucs (7-11, 4-6 A-Sun) were led offensively by Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) as she tallied eight kills on the night. Mallory Kiley (Palm Harbor, Fla.) and McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) each had five kills for the Bucs.
Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) led ETSU with 18 assists, while freshman Jen Neice (Allen, Texas) led the team defensively with 11 digs.
"We knew that Tennessee is a good program with athletic players, and we said before the game that we had to come out and play strong and not let our opponent dictate play," Devine said. "Even though we lost, every time we step on the court against a good team we get better and better. We are just so young, and once we understand what we are capable of we will make great strides every time we step out on the court.
ETSU is back in action on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. as the Bucs head to Macon, Ga. to take on conference opponent Mercer. Please visit www.ETSUBucs.com for more information on ETSU volleyball and all other Buccaneer athletic news.
