DELAND, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2009) - The ETSU volleyball team swept Stetson Saturday afternoon at the Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla., 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-18).
McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) had a good offensive outing for the Buccaneers as she posted a team-best 11 kills hitting .500. Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) also had double-digit kills with ten in the match, while Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) had seven kills hitting .385.
Junior Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) picked up her tenth double-double of the season as she tallied 29 assists and 11 digs. Jen Neice (Allen, Texas) led ETSU in back with a team-high 15 digs.
ETSU fell behind early in the first set going down 7-3, but the Bucs used a 7-3 run to tie the match at 10-all. The Buccaneers went on to close out the set on a 15-4 run to go up 1-0 in the match.
After seven ties early in the second set, the Bucs went on a 9-3 run to take a 16-10 advantage. ETSU went on to win the set 25-18 on a Ryan kill to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Ryan led the Bucs in the set with six kills.
In the third set, ETSU jumped out in front 10-2. The Bucs extended their lead to 18-9 at one point as they closed out the match on a Ryan kill, 25-18.
