MACON, Ga. (August 29, 2011) – After leading the Buccaneers to a conference-best 3-1 record in the opening weekend of play, sophomore Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) has been named Atlantic Sun Volleyball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Devine, the reigning A-Sun Freshman of the Year, put up stellar numbers in the season opening UNCG Invitational over the weekend. For the four-match tournament, Devine compiled 67 kills, 35 digs, three service aces and four blocks, earning her All-Tournament honors.
In the victory against UNC Greensboro on Friday night, Devine tied a career-high with 22 kills. The following day against Coastal Carolina, she led the Bucs to victory with 20 kills and 12 digs, which was her second double-double of the tournament. She also recorded a double-double in the season opening match against Evansville, with 16 kills and 14 digs.
The player of the week award for Devine is the first of her career. The Buccaneers had two player of the week winners in 2010 as both Jamie Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) and Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) earned the honor.
The Buccaneers return to action on Friday for the Blue Raider Bash at MTSU. ETSU will open the tournament against MTSU on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. The Bucs play Missouri and Austin Peay on Saturday before closing the tournament against FIU on Sunday.
