Johnson City, Tenn. - Head volleyball coach Kim Byrd announced that Lissa Allen (Palm Bay, Fla.), Jennifer Asman (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Katie Steidle (Waynesboro, Va.) have joined the Buccaneer program.

Allen, a senior at Melbourne Catholic High School, is a 6' middle hitter that was ranked among the top-100 players in the nation by the Midwest Scouting Report. During her senior season, Allen earned All-County Second Team honors and led the team to the quarterfinals of the Florida State Championships. Allen plays club volleyball for Space Coast and led the team to the Disney Classic Invitational title.

"Allen is very important to us in the middle position and will possibly see a lot of playing time," Byrd said. "She will help the team play higher above the net and be more competitive with the nationally-ranked schools."

Asman joined the Buc volleyball program last year, but has recently qualified to join the team. Asman is a 6' outside hitter that earned four varsity letters for head coach Virginia Kelly at Olympic Heights High School. She led her team to three State Championships from 1996-98. Asman played club volleyball for the Florida Gold Coast team, coached by Lori Eaton.

"Asman has a great work ethic," Byrd said. "She has had a year to mature and improve to be an all-around great player. Her strength is in her ball-handling and passing."

Steidle earned four varsity letters at Waynesboro High School, leading her team to the state tournament twice. Steidle earned All-State honors twice and was the Virginia Co-Player-of-the-Year during her junior season. A three-time All-Region honoree, Steidle also earned All-District honors all four years of high school. A strong all-around athlete, Steidle has also earned varsity letters in basketball, soccer and track & field.

"Katie is an unbelievable athlete with incredible jumping ability," Byrd said. "Her jumping ability allows her to play much higher with the taller players."

"With this class, we are going to turn a corner and become one of the top teams in the Southern Conference," Byrd said. "All three of these players have a lot of experience and combined are the most athletic recruiting class we've had at ETSU."

Allen, Asman and Seidle join Jessica Miller (Knoxville, Tenn.) in Byrd's 2000 recruiting class.
