Greenville, S.C. (November 2, 2002) -- Junior Kate Steidle (Waynesboro, Va.) tallied 22 kills and a .472 hitting percentage to lead East Tennessee State to a 30-28, 30-26, 22-30, 30-24 victory over Furman in volleyball action Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena. The Lady Buccaneers, who jumped out to a 2-0 lead, received five kills, 52 assists and eight digs from setter Renee Vesey (Paw Paw, Mich.). ETSU's Nicole Ryan (Etiwanda, Calif.) added 15 kills, while libero Karen Freeburg (New Castle, Ind.) totalled a match-high 27 digs. Senior Abby Simon (Simpsonville, S.C.) and Laura Bush (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Lady Paladins with 18 kills a piece, while junior Amber Montague recorded 15 kills and 14 digs. Furman drops to 17-12 overall and 12-5 in the Southern Conference, while East Tennessee State improves to 7-18 overall and 5-11 in the SoCon.
