ETSU hits stumbling block at Hokie Classic

Saturday, August 30, 2003

Blacksburg, Va. (August 30, 2003)-- Following last night's victory to open the 2003 season, the East Tennessee State volleyball team took a minor step backwards when the Buccaneers fell to Miami (Ohio) in day-two action from the Hokie Classic. The RedHawks (1-1) defeated ETSU (1-1) in three straight games (31-29, 30-20, 30-24) thanks in part to the strong play of Tara Buroker. The Miami outside hitter registered a .345 attack percentace with 14 kills. Both stats were match highs. ETSU's answer on the offensive side of the net was senior middle blocker Lissa Allen (Palm Bay, Fla.), who tallied 12 kills for an attack percentace of .310. As a team, the Bucs converted on just .175 of their attack attempts. Senior Kate Steidle (Waynesboro, Va.) flirted with a double-double with nine kills and a team-high nine digs. Sophomore Kristi Robinson garnered 33 assists. The Buccaneers will face Virginia Tech later today in the final match of the Hokie Classic. That match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
