JOHNSON CITY, TENN. (August 17, 2004) - With preseason underway for the 2004 Buccaneer volleyball squad the team's annual media day was held today in Brooks Gymnasium. With press from around the Tri-Cities area present, Head Coach Lindsey Devine and senior Karen Freeburg (New Castle, Ind.) answered questions and gave insight for expectations of the upcoming season.
The team will face tough early season competition when they travel to three out-of-state tournaments facing teams such as Purdue University, North Carolina State University, University of Kentucky and Auburn University. ETSU will welcome Southern Conference rivals Appalachian State, UT-Chattanooga, Elon and UNC Greensboro to Brooks Gym in the latter part of the 2004 season while striving for another trip to the Southern Conference Championship Tournament in mid-November to be held at UT-Chattanooga.
Devine has high expectations for the year, as the Lady Bucs return six from the 2003 squad including Freeburg who led the team with 319 digs while posting 244 kills for the year.
"Throughout our 2004 schedule we will face quality competition who will force our team to play at our highest level. Hard work and preparation will continue to be a priority for our 2004 squad all the way through the conference tournament in November," Devine said.
When asked about her final season at ETSU, Freeburg had to say, "I'm proud and honored to be part of a program that I've seen grow over my four years in a Lady Bucs uniform. Our incoming talent and our returning players will make for an exciting 2004 season."
ETSU will host Appalachian State in the 2004 home opener on Sep. 24, with the match set for a 7:00 p.m. start time. Keep up with early season action by checking for scores and match recaps on www.ETSUBucs.com.
