JOHNSON CITY, TENN. (July 11, 2005) - Coach Lindsey Devine and the ETSU volleyball team have announced the addition of a pair of freshmen to the 2005 roster with Jayme Barnes (Memphis, Tenn.) and Danielle Gonzalez (Johnson City, Tenn.) set to join the team for the upcoming fall season.
Barnes, an accomplished setter out of Memphis, Tenn., was named to the Memphis Area Best of Preps All-Metro Team, among other honors while competing on the prep level at Saint Benedict at Auburndale. She was also a member of the Memphis Juniors Volleyball Association.
"I like the enthusiasm Jayme brings to the game of volleyball," Devine said. "She is a player who will give 100 percent when she walks on the court. We hope she will help us with ball control in the libero or defensive specialist role this year."
Gonzalez, a local product from Science Hill High School in Johnson City, was a three-year letterwinner and competed in the Buc Juniors club organization. Gonzalez is also a two-time AAU National Tournament participant.
"Danielle is one of the top volleyball recruits from the Tri-Cities area," Devine said. "She is a versatile player who possesses natural athletic ability. I know Danielle has the discipline and talent to play for the ETSU volleyball team."
ETSU, in its inaugural season in the Atlantic Sun Conference, is scheduled to begin the season Sept. 2, with a trip to Richmond, Va., to take on UNC-Greensboro in the VCU Third Degree Sportswear Invitational. The contest is slated for 4:30 p.m.
