Apana named Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year as four Bucs receive All-Conference honors

MACON, Ga. (Nov 14, 2007) - Senior Kaena Apana (Waianae, Hawaii) was named Defensive Player of the Year by the Atlantic Sun conference Wednesday as four Bucs received All-Conference honors.

 

Apana was also named First Team All-Conference for her outstanding efforts this season. The Hawaii native broke the A-Sun single season records for digs and conference digs. Apana also broke the school record for digs with 721 this season, and ranks seventh nationally in digs per game. Against Belmont Apana tied her own A-Sun record for digs in a three-game match with 31.

 

Senior Callie Kiselich (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was named Second Team All-Conference for her efforts. Kiselich had a strong season as she led the Bucs in hitting percentage and was second on the team in kills with 341. Kiselich also led the team in double-doubles with eight and blocks with 91.

 

Freshmen Laura Waddell (Lynchburg, Va.) and Desiree Dyck (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) were named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman team. Waddell was third on the team in kills and played in 109 games for the Bucs, while Dyck led the team in kills and totaled 46 blocks. Waddell and Dyck rank in the top ten in the conference in kills per game. Dyck is also ranks seventh in the conference in points per game.

 

             The Bucs who closed out the regular season on a five-game win streak are the second seed in the tournament and will take on the winner of the Gardner-Webb vs. Jacksonville match. To keep up with the ETSU volleyball team visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
