JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct.. 3, 2008) - The ETSU volleyball team shutout conference opponent Kennesaw State Friday night in Brooks gym, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-17).
"This week we really worked hard in practice and with our mental preparation, and I think that helped us pull this match out in three sets," said head coach Lindsey Devine. "We served almost 4,000 balls in practice because we knew that we were shooting ourselves in the foot with the way we are serving, and they did a good job of showing improvement in that area tonight."
The Bucs (6-9, 3-5 A-Sun) were led offensively by Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) and McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) as they each had nine kills in the match. Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) tallied eight kills as she had an amazing .615 hitting percentage.
Junior Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) quarterbacked the ETSU offense as she led the team with 24 assists, while freshman Jen Neice (Allen, Texas) led the Bucs in the back row with 14 digs.
"For us confidence is important, and you could tell the girls were relaxed out there," Devine said. "I think they really understand what they are capable of, and they showed it tonight."
