JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 29, 2008) - The ETSU volleyball team dropped the season opener to East Carolina Friday night in Greenville, N.C., at the ECU Tournament, 12-25, 22-25, 18-25.
"It took us until the second set to feel comfortable with ourselves" said head coach Lindsey Devine. "We need to start faster if we want to have a chance to win."
The Bucs (0-1) were led by Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) offensively as she tallied eight kills in the match, while Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) had seven kills.
Junior Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) led the team with 18 assists, and had four kills. Defensively Jen Neice (Allen, Texas) had 14 digs for ETSU, and Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the team with three blocks.
"Defensively we blocked and dug a lot of balls, which really kept us in the game against a very athletic ECU team," Devine said.
ETSU is back action tomorrow, finishing the tournament against High Point at 11 a.m., followed by Howard at 5 p.m. Please visit www.ETSUBucs.com for more information on ETSU volleyball and all other Buccaneer athletic news.
