NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 13, 2009) - The ETSU volleyball team was swept by Belmont Friday afternoon at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tenn., 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 11-25).
Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) had a team-best seven kills hitting .583 in the match, while Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) had 26 assists running the ETSU offense. Jen Neice (Allen, Texas) led the team defensively with ten digs on the afternoon.
In the first set, play was tight until Belmont used a 5-2 run to take a 12-9 advantage. The Bucs cut the Bruins lead to 14-12, but Belmont wouldn't relinquish the lead winning the set 25-19.
Belmont took an early lead in the second set, but ETSU battled back to tie the set at 8-all. With the score tied 9-9, the Bruins took eight-straight points to go in front 17-9. falling behind 20-10, the Buccaneers went on a 12-4 run to cut the Bruins lead to 24-22. Belmont won the set 25-22 on Channing Salava kill to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
The Bruins jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in the third set. Belmont extended its lead to 20-8 after an 11-5 run. A Salava kill closed out the set 25-11.
