JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 22, 2009) - The ETSU volleyball team is set to host Mercer and Kennesaw State this weekend in Brooks Gym as the Bucs look to move up in the Atlantic Sun standings. The Bucs face Mercer at 7 p.m. on Friday, while the Owls come to town on Saturday at 6 p.m.
ETSU (7-14, 5-7 A-Sun) is coming off of a big 3-2 win over UNC Asheville on Tuesday that ended a four-game skid. The Bucs have dropped four of their last five conference matches, with their last win coming at home against Belmont. Junior Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) leads the way for the Buccaneers as she has a team-best 209 kills and eight double-doubles while posting 116 assists and 182 digs.
The Bucs are.4-3 all-time against Mercer as the Buccaneers swept the Bears on the road earlier this season. ETSU is 4-1 all-time against Kennesaw having won the only contest between the teams earlier this year.
Mercer (6-16, 4-9 A-Sun) is 2-3 in its last five matches having defeated Stetson and Belmont, while losing to Kennesaw State, Lipscomb and Georgia State. The Bears are led by Krista Hurley as she has a team-best 191 kills.
Kennesaw State (11-9, 6-7 A-Sun) comes into the weekend having won two of its last three contests downing Mercer and Belmont, while being swept by Lipscomb. Asjia Stokes leads the Owls as she is sixth in the A-Sun in kills with 275 on the year.
