BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Oct. 16, 2009) - The ETSU volleyball team fell to Campbell Friday night as the Camels came back to defeat the Bucs in the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center, 3-2 (25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 19-25, 7-15).

 

Junior Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) posted her seventh double-double of the season tallying 11 kills and 11 digs. Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) and McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) also had double-digit kills in the match as Ryan had 11, while Barber had ten and four blocks.

 

Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) ran the ETSU offense as she had 44 assists and seven digs on the night. Freshman Ashley Rosenboom (High Springs, Fla.) led the Bucs defensively with 14 digs.

 

ETSU jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first set. The Camels cut the lead to 11-8 after a couple Buccaneer attack errors, but the Bucs used a 7-3 run to take an 18-11 advantage. ETSU went on to win the set 25-19 on a Ryan kill.

 

Play was tight in the second set until with the score tied 13-13 Campbell went on a 6-2 run to take a 19-15 lead. The Camels won the set 25-19 on an Emily Werner kill. Allyson Goldbach posted an impressive seven kills in the set for Campbell.

 

The third set saw a total of 12 ties and five lead changes. The Buccaneers go out to a 24-21 lead late and closed out the set 25-23 on a Ryan Kill to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

 

In the fourth set, ETSU got out to an early 6-2 lead. The Camels rallied to tie the match at 7-all after going on a 5-1 run. Play went back and forth until Campbell went on a 6-2 run to take 19-15 advantage. The Camels took the set on a Werner kill to even the match a 2-all.

 

Campbell carried its momentum into the fifth set going out in front 8-1. The Camels closed out the match on an Ashley Weers kill to take the set 15-7.
