JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 1, 2009) - The ETSU volleyball team is set to host Lipscomb and Belmont this weekend. The Bucs face the Bisons on Friday at 7 p.m., while the Bruins come to town on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Bucs (5-9, 4-2 A-Sun) dropped a couple heart breakers last week to Appalachian State 3-2 and Campbell 3-1. The Bucs are led by Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) who is third in the A-Sun with 491 assists.
The all-time series between ETSU and Lipscomb is tied 4-4, while the Bucs are 1-5 all-time against Belmont with their only win coming in 2006.
Lipscomb (11-3, 7-0 A-Sun) has swept its last eight games as the Bisons are perfect in conference. The Bisons are led by Jake Pease and Alex Kelly. Pease is first in the conference averaging 11.77 assists per set, while Kelly is first in the A-Sun in kills per set posting an average of 4.45 per set.
Belmont (9-8, 5-2 A-Sun) has won five-straight including conference matches against Stetson, Mercer and Kennesaw State. The Bruins are led by Maggie Johnson as she has a team-high 216 kills.
All middle school volleyball players will recieve free admission to the Lipscomb game on Friday, and are asked to wear their jerseys to the match. There will also be a free volleyball clinic after Saturday's match for any youth volleyball players. Members of the ETSU volleyball team will be putting on the free clinic helping teach and improve the skills of local youth.
