WINSTON-SALEM
, N.C. (August 28, 2010) - The ETSU volleyball team dropped a hard fought match to Wake Forest, 3-0 (18-25, 23-25, 21-25), on day two of the Deacon Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss ETSU falls to 0-2 on the season, while Wake Forest remains perfect with a 2-0 mark. The Demon Deacons defeated Coastal Carolina, 3-1, yesterday in their first match of the year.

In the first set, Wake Forest used some key runs to defeat the Bucs. First, with the scored tied at three, Wake Forest reeled off four straight points that was capped by a Carlin Salmon kill. Then, after a service error from Wake Forest to pull ETSU within four at 16-12, Wake scored five straight to extend the lead to 21-12. The Demon Deacons won the set after winning the last three points for the 25-18 margin.

Desiree Dyck (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) for the second straight day led the ETSU offensive attack as she totaled 12 kills on the afternoon. Dyck had a team high .474 hitting percentage and also came away with three digs and an ace. Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) also came away with double digit kills as she totaled 11 to go along with seven digs. For the second straight day, Kiley Tamblyn (Torrance, Calif.) finished with ten digs and she also came away with three assists and an ace. Senior setter Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) dished out 29 assists and had two kills, seven digs, and two blocks.

ETSU got off to a quick 6-1 advantage out of the gate in the second set. Wake Forest stopped the momentum again as they scored four straight points to make the score 6-5. The Bucs continued to build their Set two lead to 19-12 after a Wake Forest attack error.
The Deacons then went on a 9-2 run to tie the score at 21-21, thanks in large part to three kills from Kadija Fornah. After Wake rallied to tie the score, ETSU scored two straight points to take a late-set advantage but they could not hold on as Wake scored the last four points to win the set.

The Demon Deacons got off to a quick 4-0 lead in the third set. Kristen White helped kick start the advantage by collecting two aces. ETSU pushed back and eventually took their first lead of the set at 8-7 after a Tamblyn ace. The teams went back and forth until the score went 15-15. Three straight hitting errors by the Bucs gave Wake the lead that they would never relinquish.

The Bucs close out the Deacon Invitational this evening with a match against Coastal Carolina at 4:30 p.m.
