Monday, September 20, 2010
MACON, Ga. (Sept. 20, 2010) - After leading the Bucs to a 3-1 mark at the SpringHill Suites Invitational this past weekend, senior Alysa Long (Romulus, Mich.) has been named Atlantic Sun volleyball player of the week, the conference office announced on Monday.
"Our team is so proud of Alysa, said ETSU head coach Lindsey Devine. "I have told her for a long time that she is a good player but why stop at good when she can be great."
Long was named to the SpringHill Suites Invitational All-Tournament Team after tallying 38 kills and 16 blocks on the weekend. In ETSU's second match of the weekend against South Alabama, Long finished with eight kills in twelve attempts (8-0-12) for an impressive .667 hitting percentage, to lead the Bucs to a 3-0 victory. Additionally, Long finished the tournament strong with 24 kills in her final two matches.
She also continues to lead the league in blocks as she has already totaled 65 blocks on the season at an average of 1.20 blocks per set. She also leads the team and ranks near the top of the league in attack percentage at .312. Last season Long led the Bucs with a .316 attack percentage which was good enough for the third best mark in school history.
This marks the first time that Long has earned Atlantic Sun player of the week honors and is the second time this season that a member of the Bucs has received the honor. Back on September 7, Jamie Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) won the award for the first time in her career after leading ETSU to a perfect 3-0 mark at the Radford Tournament.
The Bucs will return to action on Wednesday as they will travel to Chattanooga for a non-conference match against longtime rival UT Chattanooga. The match is set for 7 p.m.
