MACON, Ga. (Nov. 4, 2013) – After breaking the Atlantic Sun blocks record, ETSU junior middle blocker Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) earned her second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season as the league office announced its weekly awards on Monday.
Hardy enjoyed a record-setting week as the Buccaneer middle blocker became the all-time A-Sun leader in total blocks by moving her career total to 439 in 91 matches played. The Kingsport, Tenn. native broke the all-time conference record following a 9-kill, 8-block effort in the three-set win versus Kennesaw State on Tuesday night inside Brooks Gym, which also extended ETSU’s home win streak to 12. On Friday, Hardy totaled 11 kills, six digs, four blocks and two service aces in a five-set win at FGCU, resulting in the Bucs’ first-ever win over the Eagles inside Alico Arena. From there, Hardy added 12 kills and six blocks in another five-set win Saturday evening at Stetson.
For the week, Hardy hit .310 (32-10-71), while averaging 2.46 kills, 1.38 blocks and 0.46 digs per set.
Hardy has received three weekly honors this season (two defensive, one player) and it’s the fourth career award for the exercise science major.
The Bucs return to action this weekend when ETSU and Lipscomb battle for first-place in the A-Sun standings Friday night inside Brooks Gym. First-serve is set for 7 p.m., while one lucky student will also win a FREE set of Beats by Dre and Fox’s Pizza will pass out FREE pizza (while supplies last) beginning at 6 p.m.
