Buccaneer outside hitter led all players in South Region voting

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 10, 2013) – For the second straight year, ETSU senior captain Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) received American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region Team honors as the Buccaneer outside hitter collected the accolade on Tuesday afternoon.

Devine, a First Team All-Atlantic Sun and All-Academic member, ranked nationally in kills (14th, 4.49) and points (17th, 4.97) per set, and was second among NCAA Division I active career kill leaders with 1,940. Prior to the season, Devine was named A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year and was one of 30 candidates placed on the Senior CLASS list.

The Kingsport, Tenn. native broke the all-time ETSU and A-Sun kills record in 2013, while registering 22 double-doubles, including 13 straight to end the season. Devine posted 15 double-doubles in conference-only matches, which tied the A-Sun single-season record set by the Buccaneer standout a year ago.

Devine totaled double-digit kills in all 30 matches, and helped guide ETSU to its first regular season conference championship since 2006 as the Bucs went 22-9, 16-2, marking the most conference wins in program history. The 2012 A-Sun Player of the Year also set a career-high with 28 kills in a five-set win against Lipscomb (Nov. 8), while her 22 in a sweep at USC Upstate and 27 at Tennessee were the most kills by an A-Sun player in a three and four-set match, respectively.

Joining Devine on the All-Region Team were Lipscomb’s Jewell Dobson and Lauren Ford, Mississippi State’s Kimmy Gardiner and Roxanne McVey, Arkansas’ Meredith Hays and Raymariely Santos, Alabama’s Krystal Rivers and Sierra Wilson, LSU’s Briana Holman, Auburn’s Camila Jersonsky, MTSU’s Tyler Richardson, and Texas A&M’s Allie Sawtzky.

Devine led all players in the south region voting with 19 votes.
