JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 2, 2013) – Coming off its season-opening trip to Wake Forest, the ETSU volleyball team returns to action Tuesday night when the Bucs host Furman in their home opener. Game time is set for 6 p.m., inside Brooks Gym.

Tuesday marks one of ten home matches for ETSU (1-2) this season. The Bucs have enjoyed playing inside Brooks Gym over the years, as the Blue and Gold have won 22 of their last 29 home matches, including 10 of 11 in 2012.

ETSU and Furman will become conference foes in 2014 as the Bucs are joining the Southern Conference on July 1, 2014.

  • The Bucs dropped two of their three matches last weekend at the Deacon Invitational as ETSU suffered a five-set heartbreaker to UNC Greensboro on Friday and split on Saturday. ETSU dropped a four-set match to host Wake Forest, before bouncing back to sweep East Carolina later in the day.
  • Sophomore middle blocker Khadijah Wiley (Columbus, Ga.) was named to the Deacon Invitational All-Tournament Team after posting 21 kills, 12 blocks and a .364 attack percentage in 12 sets played.
  • Fellow middle blocker Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) registered 15 total blocks over the weekend, and currently leads the Atlantic Sun Conference in blocks per set (1.25). The junior standout recorded a block in all three matches to extend her streak of finishing with at least one block to 65 straight matches.
  • Senior outside hitter Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) tallied a pair of double-doubles to open the year and led all Buccaneer players in kills (49). The reigning A-Sun Player of the Year has 54 career double-doubles.
  • After the opening weekend, junior libero Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.) led the team in digs (47) and fellow junior Bethany Gesell (High Point, N.C.) had seven of ETSU’s 20 service aces over the weekend. Gesell is tied for the conference lead in aces per set (0.58) and Muey ranks fourth in digs per set (3.92).

  • Furman (0-3) looks to rebound after a slow start to the season last weekend in the Georgia Bulldog Invitational. Christina Dorismond was named to the All-Tournament team in Athens, where the Paladins fell to TCU, Lipscomb, and tournament-host Georgia.
  • Furman was picked to finish third by the SoCon coaches.
  • Dorismond and junior Jo Wilks were named preseason All-Southern Conference. Dorismond was voted to the 2012 All-SoCon Tournament team after recording 42 kills (.390 attack percentage) and 11 blocks in three games. Wilks was voted the 2012 SoCon Freshman of the Year after finishing the season ranked fourth in the NCAA in assists per set (12.23).

  • Tuesday marks the 48th all-time meeting between the two programs. Furman leads the series, 24-23, but the Bucs have won the last three meetings.
  • This marks the first time ETSU and Furman has played since 2007 when the Blue and Gold swept the Paladins in Brooks Gym.
