OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (Oct. 27, 2014) – The finalists for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award in volleyball were released on Monday and ETSU middle blocker Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) was one of 10 student-athletes selected.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Hardy holds ETSU’s career blocks record with 590, while it also ranks second among active NCAA Division I players. In addition to the blocks, the 2013 A-Sun Scholar-Athlete of the Year has also recorded 1,218 career kills and posted at least one block in 117 straight matches. Hardy, an exercise science major, has a 3.884 cumulative grade-point-average and is also a two-time Buccaneer 4.0 Club member. Click here to view Hardy’s Senior CLASS profile.
The other nine finalists include Oregon’s Liz Brenner, Savanah Leaf, Miami (Florida), Haley Eckerman (Texas), Liz McMahon (Illinois), Florida State’s Katie Mosher, Casey Hinger (Cal State Northridge), Michigan State’s Kori Moster, Arizona’s Madi Kingdon and North Carolina’s Chaniel Nelson.
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through December 8. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship in December.
