Four preseason tournaments, nine home matches, and matches against Virginia Tech, Washington State and Clemson highlight 2015 slate

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 28, 2015) – Four preseason tournaments, nine home matches and matches against Virginia Tech, Washington State and Clemson highlight the 2015 ETSU volleyball schedule as head coach Lindsey Devine and her staff released the Buccaneers’ slate of games on Tuesday.

ETSU, who finished tied for second in its first season in the Southern Conference a year ago, plays four preseason tournaments before coming home to host Tennessee State on Sept. 22 inside Brooks Gym. The preseason tournaments send the Blue and Gold to Virginia (Virginia Tech/Radford), Alabama (Troy), South Carolina (Clemson) and Kentucky (Morehead State).

Overall, four of ETSU’s opponents played in the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

The Bucs open the 2015 campaign on Friday, Aug. 28 against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, while taking on Washington State and Long Island the following day at Radford. The Hokies are coming off a 17-win season, while winning their final six matches, and Long Island has advanced to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Following the opening weekend, ETSU heads south for the Trojan Invitational in Troy, Ala., where the Bucs take on Alabama State, Cal State Bakersfield and Troy. CSU Bakersfield is the reigning Western Athletic Conference champion, while Alabama State has advanced to the last two NCAA Tournaments.

From there, ETSU plays its third “Power 5” conference opponent when the Blue and Gold open the Clemson Invitational with tournament host Clemson on Sept. 11. In addition, the Bucs take on USC Upstate and Presbyterian on Sept. 12.

ETSU’s final preseason tournament sends the Bucs to Morehead, Ky., as the Blue and Gold face Marshall and Morehead State on Sept. 18, while squaring off with Akron on Sept. 19.

After wrapping up tournament play, ETSU returns home to host Tennessee State in its home opener on Sept. 22 before opening SoCon competition at regular season champion, Furman (Sept. 25).

Coming off a road swing to open the SoCon season, the Bucs host UNCG in their conference home opener on Sept. 30, while also playing Mercer (Oct. 3), Wofford (Oct. 17), The Citadel (Oct. 23), Western Carolina (Oct. 24), Furman (Oct. 28), Chattanooga (Nov. 13) and Samford (Nov. 14) inside Brooks Gym. ETSU enjoys a season-long four-match homestand from Oct. 17-28, while taking on reigning tournament champion Samford on Senior Day.

The SoCon Championship will be held Nov. 21-23 in Cullowhee, N.C.
