JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (August 11, 2015) – The East Tennessee State University volleyball team began preparations for its 2015 campaign Tuesday afternoon inside Brooks Gym. The Buccaneers will have 17 days to prepare for their regular season opener Aug. 28 at Virginia Tech.

ETSU, which finished 17-16 and 11-5 in league play in 2014, will have a new look this season as it lost six players to graduation, including a pair of All-SoCon performers in Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.) and Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.). Despite the losses, the Buccaneers’ team roster is actually larger than a season ago as they added seven new players to the lineup.

Despite the departures, the Buccaneers bring back some key players from last season’s squad. Khadijah Wiley (Columbus, Ga.) and Rylee Milhorn (Kingsport, Tenn.) return after totaling over 225 kills in 2014 (237, 227, respectively). In addition to the duo’s kill numbers, Wiley is the team’s returning leader on the block (117), while Milhorn leads the way in digs (260). Setting up Wiley, Milhorn and the rest of ETSU’s attackers this season figures to be junior Kristen Favre (Plano, Texas). Favre, who led the team with 799 assists in 2014, finished sixth in the SoCon averaging 6.66 assists per set.

ETSU will have 21 practices in 12 days prior to classes beginning on Aug. 24. The Buccaneers open the season Aug. 28-29 at the Radford/Virginia Tech Invitational. ETSU will open at Virginia Tech Aug. 28 and then travel to Radford, Va. to face Washington State and LIU Brooklyn Aug. 29.
