SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Sept. 21, 2015) – East Tennessee State University volleyball player Khadijah Wiley (Columbus, Ga.) was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon by league officials. This is the first weekly honor for the Bucs this season.

Wiley helped lead the Bucs to a 3-0 record last weekend en route to winning the Comfort Inn-Vitational tournament championship. The Columbus, Ga. native tallied at least four blocks in each of ETSU’s three matches. Wiley was also a threat offensively as she tallied a season-high 15 kills and hit .452 in the win over Akron Saturday.

Wiley currently leads the SoCon in blocks and blocks per set with totals of 62.0 and 1.48, respectively. Because of Wiley’s work on the block, the Bucs lead the conference in blocks as well with 106.5.

This is the first weekly honor that Wiley has received during her career.

ETSU will open its home schedule Tuesday evening when it hosts Tennessee State at 5 p.m. in Brooks Gym. ETSU will also open conference play this week when it travels to Furman Friday and The Citadel Saturday. First serves for both matches are scheduled for 6 p.m.
