The Bucs are 3-0 at home this season

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.  (October 6, 2016) – Returning home for the first time since Aug.27, the ETSU volleyball team will host a pair of SoCon matches this weekend beginning on Friday, Oct.7 as the Bucs take on Western Carolina at 7:00 p.m.

Scouting the Buccaneers
ETSU heads into the weekend with an overall record of 9-6 and 1-2 in SoCon play. The Bucs are coming off three straight road contests to begin conference play previously falling in four sets at Chattanooga last Friday. Friday’s game versus Western Carolina marks the first of three straight home games for the blue and gold.

AJ Lux named SoCon Offensive Player of the Month for September
Sophomore outside hitter AJ Lux (Shelbyville, Ind.) on Wednesday was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Month for September after recording 159 kills and a staggering .322 hitting percentage. During the month, Lux had four straight matches of 16 kills or more including a career-high 20 kills at Furman.

Here is where ETSU ranks amongst the SoCon in multiple categories:

1st – Assists per set – 13.07

Welcome Home
For the first time since Aug.27, the ETSU volleyball team returns to Brooks Gym for a home contest. The Bucs are 3-0 this season with three victories coming against Austin Peay, Troy and USC Upstate in the DoubleTree Hotel Buccaneer Challenge. ETSU has yet to lose a set at home.

Scouting Western Carolina
Western Carolina heads into Friday’s contest with an overall record of 7-8 and 2-1 in SoCon play. The Catamount have struggled on the road this season compiling an overall record of 0-5 away from Cullowhee, N.C. WCU is last in the SoCon in hitting percentage at .150 and second in digs per set (16.03). Last season, the Catamounts split their season series with the Bucs with each road team winning in the opponent’s gym.

Scouting Western Carolina
The Spartans of UNC-Greensboro are 8-9 overall and 3-2 in SoCon play after defeating Furman on Wednesday in straight sets. UNCG has been playing well as of late winning four of their last six matches. Leading the Spartan attack on Wednesday was Ashley Muench who recorded 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .414. ETSU leads the all-time series, 17-9, sweeping the season series a year ago.
