Volleyball heads to Birmingham for SoCon Tournament

ETSU is the No.1 seed and will play on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (November 18, 2016) – The ETSU volleyball team heads to Birmingham, Ala. as the No.1 seed in the 2016 Southern Conference Tournament this weekend. The Bucs will face the winner of the tournament’s opening match between the No.8 seed Furman and the No.9 seed The Citadel on Saturday, Nov.19 at 3:30 p.m.

Scouting the Buccaneers
The Bucs head into the SoCon Tournament with the number one seed after clinching the SoCon Regular Season Title for the first time since 1991 last weekend. With a 13-3 conference record, ETSU is looking to win their first SoCon Tournament since 1992.

Upcoming Schedule
With a victory on Saturday, the Bucs will play the winner of No.4 Samford or No.5 Wofford on Sunday, Nov.20 at 2:00 p.m. A win in the semifinals on Sunday earns the Bucs a spot in the SoCon Tournament Championship game on Monday, Nov.21 at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN3.

Briana Allmon Named Player of the Year
Senior outside hitter Briana Allmon (Flower Mound, Texas) was named 2016 SoCon Player of the Year after recording a team-high 397 kills while ranking second in the conference in kills per set at 3.97. Allmon has recorded at least 10 kills in 16 of the last 17 games. The senior is the first Buccaneer to earn SoCon Player of the Year honors since 2001.

Coach Devine named SoCon Coach of the Year
In her 14th season at the helm of the ETSU volleyball program head coach Lindsey Devine earned Coach of the Year honors for the first time in her career. Devine led the Bucs to the SoCon Regular Season Title and has guided the Bucs to five 20-win seasons.

Three Bucs earn All-SoCon honors
Along with being named Player of the Year, Briana Allmon along with sophomore AJ Lux (Shelbyville, Ind.) was named First Team All-SoCon. Freshman Kaela Massey (Brentwood, Tenn.) earned SoCon All-Freshman honors.

How “Sweep” It Is
For the first time in program history the ETSU volleyball program recorded an undefeated (11-0) record at home. Of the 11 victories in Johnson City, nine came in three-sets. During the month of October, the Bucs lost just two out of 20 sets at home.
