Favre is one of two to earn the SoCon Presidential Scholarship

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 10, 2017) – ETSU Volleyball student-athlete Kristen Favre (Plano, Texas) was named as one of two Southern Conference student-athletes to receive the Southern Conference Presidential Scholarship, the league office announced on Monday.

Favre is one of only 10 SoCon student-athletes to receive a SoCon Postgraduate Scholarship and joins Mercer’s Taylor Rodgers to receive the SoCon Presidential Scholarship.

“Kristen is a very worthy recipient of this honor. Throughout her four years at ETSU she approached the student-athlete life with a great deal of hard work and determination,” said head coach Lindsey Devine. “She embraced the challenging moments and enthusiastically pursued this opportunity to learn and grow, leaving a lasting footprint of success on this program.”

The senior exercise science major holds a grade point average of 3.71 and is a member of the Sigma Alpha Pi honor society. Favre is set to attend the University of Texas Medical Branch in the fall to begin her graduate studies in occupational therapy.

During her time at ETSU, Favre has spent more than 200 hours of her time coaching volleyball camps and has served as a volleyball middle school referee. She has also volunteered with the Salvation Army meal service and volunteered with Physical Therapy Services of Johnson City.

On the court, the Plano, Texas, native finished top five in the league in assists per set each of the last two seasons and was an integral part of the Bucs winning the regular season title in 2013 as part of the Atlantic Sun and the SoCon regular season title in 2016.

The recipients are nominated by their schools and selected by the Southern Conference Graduate Scholar Committee. The scholarships, worth $2,000 each, are awarded to student-athletes about to receive their undergraduate degrees who intend to pursue advanced degrees in graduate or professional school. The student-athletes are evaluated on academics, athletics and community service.
