Milhorn prepares for her last season as a Buc

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (August 16, 2017) – Senior outside hitter Rylee Milhorn (Kingsport, Tenn.) is currently experiencing her last volleyball preseason as a Buccaneer. She will take the court in just two days for the team’s first scrimmage against Charlotte on Saturday, August 9.

Milhorn has always enjoyed playing volleyball and it’s been her escape whenever she’s needed it. She’s been playing the sport for 13 years now and she can’t see her life without it. Volleyball has helped shaped her to become the person she is today.

Head coach Lindsey Devine shares how she’s progressed from her first year as a freshman, to now, a senior. “When she stepped out on the court her freshman year, that was a lot of pressure as a freshman, but right away she embraced that role. Now she’s a senior here, and I look at the success this team has had and I look at what Rylee has done for the program and she really has stepped up her game in so many different areas to make us successful.”

Coach Devine expresses that Rylee’s confidence and belief in herself has amped her game. “I always had the belief in her right from the beginning. I knew that she could embrace this role. She was on point with her serve-receive, she’s an aggressive attacker, and I think where she has evolved now, would be to continue to be that lead by example player and be a force on the front line for her block. I know that she’s been working hard on that (her block) and I know that she’s going to exude that passion she has for this game, for our program, and our girls will really feed off her passion.”

Milhorn says this year’s team is coming along nicely. They’ve clicked as a team right from the beginning. They are ready to get out on the court and compete together. “It feels good. Being the only senior is tough, as is being the only freshman when I first started, but coach has pushed me to be the player I can and I would not be here today without her or the team.”

As a senior, Devine knows that “Rylee is going to lead by example. She works really hard in practice and has such a great standard for herself and the girls are able to look at that. She mentors through her performance.”

During her time at ETSU, Milhorn has been a standout for the Bucs’ volleyball program. Last season, she was named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament Team. During the SoCon Tournament Quarterfinals, she recorded eight double-doubles including 19 kills and 17 digs.

As a sophomore, she was named to the First Team All-SoCon, while recording 369 kills and 337 digs, averaging 3.32 kills per set. As a freshman, Milhorn was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team. For the past three years, Milhorn has been a huge asset to the ETSU volleyball program and will continue to do that for her senior season.

Be sure to follow Rylee Milhorn and the volleyball team throughout the year. Their first official home match is September 19 at 6:00 p.m. against Western Carolina.
