AJ Lux had a team high of 17 kills

BOONE, N.C. (September 2, 2017) – After two back to back wins to begin the Appalachian Invitational, the Bucs faced first-time opponent, Towson. The Bucs grabbed the first set, but ultimately fell to Towson 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 24-26, 20-15). Junior right side hitter AJ Lux (Shelbyville, Ind.) paced the Bucs with 17 kills throughout the match.

Lux started off strong in the first set with four kills and continued to be a powerful force with five kills in both the second and third set. Lux has been dominate on the front line for ETSU this season. Leah Clayton (Danville, Va.) finished the match with a team high of a .344 hitting percentage. Clayton had 14 kills, eight digs, and three blocks. To close out the front line, senior outside hitter Rylee Milhorn (Kingsport, Tenn.) was just shy of completing her second double-double of the season. She finished with nine kills and ten digs. The second set was a very close battle. Five different Bucs contributed on the attack line.

Junior setter Alyssa Kvarta (Crown Point, Ind.) contributed with 31 assists throughout the match. She also had a team high of two service aces. Hailey Aguilar (Chicago, Ill.) once again was influential on the back line recording 13 digs and she also picked up five assists.

The entire match was a battle between both teams. There were seven ties in the first set, and 15 ties in the second set.

Despite the loss, the Bucs forced Towson to more errors throughout the match.  ETSU’s hitting percentage was not as strong as it has been all season, as Towson had more kills than the Bucs in each set during this match.

Up Next: The Bucs travel to Bowling Green, Ky. for the Holiday Inn-University Plaza Invitational. They will face Western Kentucky, Saint Louis, and Pittsburgh.
