JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 7, 2017) – The ETSU volleyball team will continue to play on the road in Bowling Green, Ky. at the Holiday Inn-University Plaza Invitational this weekend. They are scheduled to play host Western Kentucky, Saint Louis, and Pittsburgh. All three opponents have not met in recent years and have not met frequently in previous years.

LAST TIME OUT: ETSU returned from the Appalachian State Invitational where they finished second with a 2-1 overall record. They swept ACC opponent Virginia 3-0 and won against Appalachian State 3-1. Despite winning the first set against Towson, the Bucs lost the next three sets, which resulted in a 3-1 loss. Towson ended up going 3-0 throughout the tournament.
ETSU vs. Western Kentucky: The last time these teams met was in 2008 and Western Kentucky won 3-0. Western Kentucky holds a 1-4 overall record against the Bucs.
ETSU vs. Saint Louis: Both teams have only met once back in 1997. Saint Louis won 3-0.
ETSU vs. Pittsburgh: Both teams have only met once back in 2000. Pittsburgh won 3-0.
A LOOK AT ETSU: It was an impressive weekend for the Bucs after going 2-1. The team played very well and senior Rylee Milhorn (Kingsport, Tenn.) and junior AJ Lux (Shelbyville, Ind.) were both named to the Appalachian Invitational All-Tournament team. Lux leads the team with 65 kills, while having a .308 hitting percentage. Milhorn isn’t too far behind with 63 kills and also recording 54 digs. Hailey Aguilar (Chicago, Ill.) came off an impressive weekend as she currently has 75 digs. Setters Alyssa Kvarta (Crown Point, Ind.) and Lexie Libs (Clarksville, Ind.) continue to set well for their outside hitters giving them a chance to place the ball where they want. Mariah McPartland (Boone, Iowa) has been a huge presence on the front line with a team high of 17 blocks.
A LOOK AT WESTERN KENTUCKY: WKU is currently 5-2. They went undefeated at the Miami (OH) Best Western Sycamore Inn Invitational during their first week of play. Their two losses of the season came from Louisville and Illinois at the Cardinal Classic. Western Kentucky’s Jessica Lucas has been named the Conference USA Setter of the Week. Outside hitters Alyssa Cavanaugh and Rachel Anderson are WKU’s main hitters as Cavanaugh has 86 kills and Anderson has 77 kills so far. Anderson will also be someone to watch for as she has 18 blocks. WKU also received 11 votes in the 2017 AVCA Division I Coaches Poll for week two.
A LOOK AT SAINT LOUIS: Saint Louis is currently 0-6. They have only been able to win three sets. They have three hitters with more than 50 kills; Maya Taylor, Nenye Okoro, and Lauren Leverenz. Okoro and Leverenz each have 13 kills. Camilla Rivas is SLU’s main setter since she has 193 assists. Mackenzie Long seems to control the back line with 67 digs.
A LOOK AT PITTSBURGH: Pitt has a 2-3 record after going 1-2 at the Husky Invitational and 1-1 at the Dayton Invitational. Pitt has already had two five-set matches so far and has a 1-1 record with them. Nika Markovic is Pitt’s best hitter with 67 kills and a .270 hitting percentage. With 168 assists, Kamalani Akeo will be Pitt’s primary setter. Markovic and Akeo have also controlled the back line with their double-digit digs.
