JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 14, 2017) – The Bucs will wrap up tournament play this weekend at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. hosted by Virginia Tech. ETSU will only play two opponents; Radford and Virginia Tech. These will be the last non-conference matches before the Bucs host Western Carolina for their home opener on Tuesday, September 19.

LAST TIME OUT: ETSU last played at the Holiday Inn-University Plaza Invitational hosted by Western Kentucky. The Bucs’ memorable game from last weekend came from a 3-2 win against Saint Louis. ETSU came from behind to win three sets in a row. During the match, Rylee Milhorn (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded her 1,000 career-kill, while AJ Lux tied her career-high of 20 kills. Milhorn was named to the All-Tournament Team and was named the TSWA Volleyball Player of the Week for the second week in a row for her performance.
ETSU vs. Radford: The Bucs hold the all-time record against Radford 23-8. Their last meeting was in 2014 and the Bucs won a five-set match.
ETSU vs. Virginia Tech: Virginia Tech holds the all-time series. The first meeting was in 1984 and the last meeting was in 2015. Both times the Bucs lost 3-0.
A LOOK AT ETSU: The Bucs have played some top-ranked opponents throughout their preseason. They are led by Rylee Milhorn (Kingsport, Tenn.) who has been dominate in each tournament.
A LOOK AT RADFORD: Radford is currently 8-1 after three tournaments in a row, similar to the Bucs. Radford’s Maddie Palmer has been named the Big South Player of the Week for the third consecutive week. Palmer has 132 kills, 98 digs and 19 blocks, while recording two double-doubles last weekend. With 300 assists, Haley Kleepsies is their main setter and Maci Keaton is their main blocker. Radford has also played Arizona and won a 3-2 match, where the Bucs lost to Arizona 3-1.
A LOOK AT VIRGINIA TECH: The Hokies enter this weekend at 6-3 after competing in three tournaments as well. They went 1-2 at the Thunder Invite hosted by Marshall. Virginia Tech ranks 28th in the country for their hitting percentage of .270, with the help of Jaila Tolbert who has the teams’ highest hitting percentage. Rhegan Mitchell ranked third in the ACC in assists per set and is the Hokies primary setter. Esther Talamazzi seems to be a primary hitter for the Hokies, along with Kaity Smith.
